Which valved exhaust for a Honda Civic Type R EP3?
The Rog system for the Honda Civic Type R EP3 (2001-2005) is a valved cat-back exhaust in 304 stainless steel or titanium, built to your VIN for the 200 hp naturally aspirated VTEC four-cylinder. Valves open, the VTEC changeover becomes an event all the way to the redline; closed, the EP3 goes back to being a reliable, discreet everyday hatchback.
Sound, options and fitting in detail: our Honda Civic Type R EP3 guide.
The Civic Type R EP3, sold from 2001 to 2005, belongs to the era of naturally aspirated Type Rs: a VTEC four-cylinder, 200 hp and 196 Nm, that changes personality past a certain rev point. That switch, the VTEC crossover, is a cult moment for a whole generation, and the factory exhaust does not celebrate it as it deserves.
With the valves open, the Rog valved cat-back turns it into a sonic event, howling and metallic all the way to the red line, with an assertive presence at all revs; with the valves closed, the Honda becomes the reliable, discreet everyday hatchback again. The page is for the EP3; the FN2 and the turbocharged Type R FK2, FK8 and FL5 have their own pages, and your VIN is checked before manufacturing.
Fitting without welding, with clamps and gaskets, in about two hours; the factory valve control is retained if it exists, and otherwise the Rog remote, whose box is stowed in the boot, operates the valves.
Under the “Manifold” option, the page sells the front part that carries the EP3’s catalytic converter, and on this naturally aspirated VTEC a combined ECU remap only brings a real but modest gain, in the order of 3 to 8%, while the transformation in sound is major. For a collectable EP3 still used on the road, the 200-cell version keeps emissions control, the 100-cell version will be accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version remains reserved for track use. As for material, 304 stainless steel and titanium, the latter around 40% lighter, are offered for this 2000s hatchback.

Questions about the Honda Civic Type R EP3 exhaust.
Does the Civic Type R FN2 that succeeded the EP3 use the same system?
No, the 2007 to 2011 FN2 gets its own parts, described on another page; the EP3 is covered here, with a check of your car’s VIN before any manufacturing.
On the Civic Type R EP3, does a modified map change much?
Little: with the cat-back alone, the factory management is fine, and with the front part an ECU remap only converts the better cylinder filling into a few per cent, roughly 3 to 8%; on this naturally aspirated engine, it is the VTEC’s voice people come for first.
Before the vehicle inspection, should the Civic Type R EP3 go back to its factory configuration?
Not entirely: closed valves and a factory or 200-cell front part are enough for a standard voice and an active catalytic converter. An EP3 with the 100-cell will be judged according to the vehicle and the country, and a decat EP3 stays on the track.
Can the EP3’s VTEC crossover really be heard better with the Rog system?
Yes, with the valves open: the switchover becomes sharp, howling and metallic all the way to the red line. With the valves closed, it remains noticeable but discreet, as from the factory.
Honda Civic Type R EP3: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Honda Civic Type R EP3: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
