The Maserati GranTurismo V8 4.2 exhaust in detail.
The GranTurismo 4.2 receives a 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 built by Ferrari: 405 hp and 460 Nm, which are not delivered all at once. You have to go and find them by climbing through the revs, where the engine reveals its temperament, and also where the factory exhaust smothers it most. Supple in town, engaging as soon as the road opens up, the Italian GT deserves better than a distant voice.
This V8 sings deep and round at idle, then sharper at the top of the rev counter, in a very Italian register. With the valves open, the Rog valved cat-back brings it out fully, especially in tunnels and out of corners; with the valves closed, the GranTurismo remains a comfortable grand tourer, able to cover mile after mile without tiring its passengers.
The page is for the 2008 to 2014 GranTurismo V8 4.2; the 4.7 and the V6 have their own, and your VIN is checked before manufacturing. Under the GranTurismo, no welding: about two hours of clamps and gaskets, then valves operated by the factory control if it exists, or by the Rog remote.
Under the “Manifold” option, the page replaces the front section that carries the V8’s catalytic converters. On a naturally aspirated engine, this part combined with an ECU remap mainly brings sharpness and a little more top-end reach, a real but modest gain; without an ECU remap, it is the V8’s song that benefits. On a GT of this size, the 200-cell version is the one that keeps emissions control, the 100-cell version will be accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use, a rare destination for the 4.2. The car keeps its four round outlets, in 304 stainless steel for the V8’s warm grain or in titanium to save nearly 40% of the weight.

Questions about the Maserati GranTurismo V8 4.2 exhaust.
Why do the GranTurismo V8 4.2 and 4.7 have two separate pages?
Because the two engines do not take the same parts: the 4.7, like the V6, has its own page. This one follows the 4.2 from 2008 to 2014, and your Maserati’s VIN is checked before manufacturing.
What is the point of an ECU remap on the GranTurismo’s naturally aspirated 4.2 V8?
The cat-back does not call for one. With the front section, an ECU remap adds a little sharpness and top-end reach, with more limited gains than on a turbo engine: on this V8, it is the voice people come for first.
Before the vehicle inspection, should the GranTurismo V8 4.2 get its factory parts back?
Not if the front section is factory or 200-cell: close the valves, and the GT regains its grand tourer voice, catalytic converters active. A 100-cell version will be judged according to the car and your country; the decat version stays on the track.
What does the “Manifold” option replace on the GranTurismo V8 4.2?
It is the name of the option that replaces the section holding the catalytic converters, just after the V8; it mainly concerns owners planning an ECU remap, as the cat-back alone is enough to bring back the engine’s song.
Maserati GranTurismo V8 4.2: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Maserati GranTurismo V8 4.2: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
