The Maserati GranTurismo / GranCabrio V8 4.7 exhaust in detail.
The GranTurismo 4.7’s V8 comes off the Maranello lines: a naturally aspirated 4.7-litre Ferrari-sourced engine, 440 hp and 490 Nm between 2008 and 2016, whose sound is regularly cited among the finest in the world. Maserati has always made the voice a selling point, but even here, regulations impose their filters, and the upper register remains locked away.
A brassy, hoarse tone, presence from idle, a howl at high revs: with the valves open, the valved Rog cat-back brings out this V8 in full, with classy bangs on lift-off. With the valves closed, cruising refinement takes over again. The page covers the GranTurismo V8 4.7 coupé and the GranCabrio V8 4.7; the 4.2 and the V6 have their own pages, and your VIN is checked before manufacturing.
With no welding, using clamps and gaskets, installation takes about two hours, and the factory valve control is retained if the car has one; otherwise, the Rog remote, whose box sits in the boot, takes over.
Under the “Manifold” option, the page replaces the front section that houses the 4.7-litre’s catalytic converters. Combined with an ECU remap, it brings a real but modest gain, as on any naturally aspirated engine; on its own, it mainly changes the voice. A 4.7 fitted with the 200-cell version keeps its emissions control, the 100-cell will be accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use, far from the car’s grand touring role. The 4.7’s four round tailpipes stay where they are; only their material changes, 304 stainless steel with its warm grain or titanium, around 40% lighter, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the Maserati GranTurismo / GranCabrio V8 4.7 exhaust.
Is the GranCabrio V8 4.7, the open-top cousin of the GranTurismo, covered?
Yes. The GranTurismo coupé and the GranCabrio V8 4.7 take the same Rog system: same chassis, same 4.7-litre V8, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
On the GranTurismo V8 4.7, is an ECU remap essential?
Not with the cat-back alone, which leaves the factory map in place. With the front section, an ECU remap brings a modest gain, in keeping with a naturally aspirated engine; the voice, however, changes from the cat-back onwards.
GranTurismo V8 4.7 fitted with the system: how should I take it to the vehicle inspection?
With the valves closed, to regain cruising refinement, and with the factory or 200-cell front section, for catalytic converters in service. The 100-cell will be accepted or not depending on the car and your country; the decat version is reserved for the circuit.
Crossing Europe, does a modified GranTurismo V8 4.7 stay comfortable?
Yes: with the valves closed, it covers long stages without droning. The Maranello V8 only finds its voice when you open them, via the factory control or the Rog remote.
Maserati GranTurismo / GranCabrio V8 4.7: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
