The Mercedes-AMG CLE53 C236 / A236 exhaust in detail.
Electric compressor, 48 V starter-generator, turbo: the M256 inline-six in the CLE53 C236 is packed with technology, and its 449 hp and 560 Nm arrive at all revs. AMG tuned it for hushed efficiency; the factory exhaust pushes that logic all the way to acoustic anonymity. The page covers CLE53s built since 2024.
Yet an inline-six of this calibre deserves a voice. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back reveals its natural tone, deep, silky and consistent, with body under load and crisp crackles on lift-off. With the valves closed, the original silence is preserved, in keeping with the coupé’s grand touring spirit. The four-cylinder CLE300 and the CLS53 C257, which also uses an M256, have their own page.
The valved system is built to your VIN and fits in about two hours, with clamps and gaskets, without any welding. If the CLE53 has factory valves, the AMG modes keep controlling them; otherwise, the Rog remote opens and closes them.
The “Manifold” option refers to the downpipe of this second-generation M256, which differs from that of the first E53s according to specialist manufacturers. The 200-cell keeps emissions control, making it the only version designed for a road-going grand tourer; for the 100-cell, acceptance depends on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. No Stage 2 is published; without an ECU remap, the part brings sound and a little less weight. Titanium or 304 stainless steel: the former is around 40% lighter and comes in colours, the latter suits those who prefer a rounder sound.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG CLE53 C236 / A236 3.0 turbo exhaust.
Does the CLE53 C236 system fit a CLE300?
No: the CLE300’s four-cylinder calls for a different system, shown on its own page. Here, only the CLE53 C236 3.0 turbo, built since 2024, is covered, and the VIN lets us check before starting anything.
Does the CLE53 C236’s M256 need an ECU remap when the factory front section is kept?
Not with the cat-back alone, which the M256’s electronics accept as it is. An ECU remap makes sense if you also change the downpipe; no Stage 2 figure is published on the page, and the result depends on the car and the tuner.
Vehicle inspection: does a modified CLE53 C236 need preparing?
Yes, with the valves closed and with the cat-back alone or the 200-cell downpipe: the inline-six keeps its emissions control and a factory sound level. The more open options raise other questions: the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
Can valve control via the AMG modes be kept on the CLE53 C236?
If the coupé has them as standard, yes: the exhaust connects to them with no added box. Otherwise, or if you want to decide independently of the mode, the Rog remote takes care of it.
Does the CLE53 A236 convertible take the same system as the coupé?
Yes. The C236 coupé and the A236 convertible take the same Rog system: same chassis, same M256 six-cylinder, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Mercedes-AMG CLE53 C236 / A236 3.0 turbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Mercedes-AMG CLE53 C236 / A236 3.0 turbo: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
