The Mercedes-AMG CLS53 C257 exhaust in detail.
The CLS53 C257’s M256 is a 3.0-litre inline-six whose turbo is assisted by an electric compressor, tasked with eliminating response time at low revs. Its 435 hp and 520 Nm go to all four wheels through the 4MATIC+ drive, with immediate, steady thrust, on CLS53s produced between 2019 and 2023.
Its voice is clearer and silkier than a V8’s, with a linear climb and a metallic tone reminiscent of the great six-cylinders of the past. The factory system keeps it in the background, true to its grand touring calling. The Rog valved cat-back sets it free: a broad, crisp sound with every acceleration and every downshift, then a return to discretion, valves closed, for an understated arrival.
Fitting requires neither welding nor cutting: about two hours, clamps and gaskets, on a system built to your VIN. The AMG modes control the factory valves if the car has them; otherwise, the Rog remote. The CLS450 and CLS350 of the same generation, like the CLE53 C236, have their own pages.
The “Manifold” option covers the M256’s catalysed downpipe; our sources do not specify model years for this part, so we check it by VIN. The 200-cell leaves emissions control in place and is enough for grand touring. To go further, the 100-cell will be accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use, away from any open road. The page gives no Stage 2 figure for this engine. Titanium saves around 40% of the mass compared with 304 stainless steel and gives a more metallic note.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG CLS53 C257 3.0 M256 4MATIC+ exhaust.
Can the AMG system from the CLS53 C257 be fitted to a CLS450, which also has a six-cylinder?
No, the CLS450 has its own page despite an engine with the same layout. Only the 2019 to 2023 CLS53 C257 3.0 M256 4MATIC+ is covered here. For a 2018 model or one later than 2023, send the VIN and we check before manufacturing.
Does an equipped CLS53 C257 need to see a tuner for an ECU remap?
None with the rear system alone. With the downpipe, the map is what turns flow into power; the page does not publish a Stage 2 figure for this M256, so the result will depend on the tuner.
Mercedes-AMG CLS53 C257 3.0 M256 4MATIC+ with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the cat-back only or the 200-cell sports catalytic converter, emissions control is retained: present the car with the valves closed. The 100-cell brings more sound and flow, and whether it is accepted at the emissions test depends on the car and local rules; the decat version is intended for track use.
Titanium or stainless steel for a CLS53 C257?
Titanium saves around 40% of the weight for the same design and accentuates the inline-six’s metallic tone. 304 stainless steel, rounder in sound, remains the most popular choice for grand touring use.
Mercedes-AMG CLS53 C257 3.0 M256 4MATIC+: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
