The Mercedes-AMG CLS63 C218 / X218 exhaust in detail.
A four-door coupé with the look of a grand tourer, the CLS63 C218 hides a 5.5-litre direct-injection V8 with two turbos: 557 hp and 720 Nm in the CLS63, 585 hp and 800 Nm in the CLS63 S. The torque, enormous and available very low down, makes chasing revs pointless. This page covers the 2013 to 2017 model years; the naturally aspirated CLS W219 comes under another page.
Two turbos and an exhaust designed for comfort: the equation leaves little room for the V8, which you sense more than you hear. Yet its voice is deep and dense, with a rolling idle and an almost roaring climb. The Rog valved cat-back brings back that rumble at start-up and on downshifts; closed, it leaves the CLS as much at ease at a hotel entrance as on the motorway.
No welding: clamps, gaskets and about two hours of fitting for a system built to your VIN. Factory valves keep their control if the car has them; otherwise the two-button Rog remote takes over that role.
Here the “Manifold” option targets the catalysed front section that follows the turbos, a downpipe in tuners’ terms. The 200-cell keeps the gases treated, making it the natural choice for a road-going four-door coupé. The 100-cell, accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat variant, reserved for track use, fall outside the scope of a grand tourer. An ECU remap is needed to get horsepower out of it. Finally, the material: 304 stainless steel, or titanium, with identical valves but around 40% lighter.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG CLS63 / CLS63 S C218 / X218 5.5 V8 biturbo exhaust.
My CLS63 C218 dates from 2012: does the system on this page suit it?
Our page excludes 2011, 2012 and 2018: it covers the CLS63 and CLS63 S C218 from 2013 to 2017. For a car at the edge of the range, send the VIN and we check before manufacturing.
What does a Stage 2 ECU remap change on a CLS63 S C218 that already has 585 hp?
According to the table on the page, it reaches 710 hp and 1,100 Nm, provided the downpipe is fitted and the map is completely redone. With the cat-back alone, the CLS keeps its AMG map and its original 557 or 585 hp.
When it is time for vehicle inspection, which configuration do you recommend for a CLS63 C218?
Valves closed, with the factory front section or a 200-cell downpipe: the coupé keeps its catalytic converters active and a stock rumble. For the 100-cell, the answer will depend on the vehicle and your country’s rules. The decat downpipe is reserved for track use, which rules it out for a visit to the inspection centre.
Does the CLS63 C218 keep control of its factory valves?
If the car has them, the exhaust connects to them and operation stays as AMG intended. Without factory valves, or by preference, the Rog remote opens and closes them with a single gesture.
Does the CLS63 Shooting Brake X218 take the same system?
Yes. The C218 four-door coupé and the X218 Shooting Brake take the same Rog system: same chassis, same 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Mercedes-AMG CLS63 / CLS63 S C218 / X218 5.5 V8 biturbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
