The Mercedes-AMG SL63 R231 exhaust in detail.
The M157, the 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 of the 63 models of its generation, gives the SL63 R231,537, 564 or 585 hp depending on the version, with 800 to 900 Nm available over a very wide range. Rear-wheel drive, retractable roof: this roadster is a grand tourer capable of genuinely sporty acceleration. Our page lists the 2013 to 2020 SL63 and leaves out the year 2012.
With the roof open, the exhaust is the first thing you hear, and the factory one restrains the V8’s deep voice, which rolls at idle and races under acceleration. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back puts the M157 in the foreground: every acceleration is experienced under the open sky, every downshift gains depth. With the valves closed, the SL regains the discretion of a grand tourer, for late returns home.
Only the valved rear system is sold here: no front section is listed for this roadster, and the original catalytic converters stay in place. Fitting in about two hours, clamps and gaskets, no welding, an exhaust made to your VIN, with the factory valve control or the Rog remote.
For those considering complete tuning, the page publishes for the 585 hp version a Stage 2 at 693 hp and 1,208 Nm, which requires an ECU remap and parts this page does not sell. The system, for its part, brings sound and a little lightness, especially in titanium, around 40% lighter than 304 stainless steel for the same design.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG SL63 R231 5.5 V8 biturbo exhaust.
Are the very first SL63 R231s, from the 2012 model year, covered by this system?
The year 2012 is not covered: the page targets the 2013 to 2020 SL63 R231 5.5 twin-turbo, all power versions. Send us your car’s VIN and we check before manufacturing.
Does the map of an SL63 R231 fitted with this system need changing?
No: with no front section on this page, the AMG map stays original. The published Stage 2 figures, 693 hp and 1,208 Nm for the 585 hp version, come from a complete tune carried out by an M157 specialist.
Mercedes-AMG SL63 R231 5.5 V8 biturbo with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
The Rog exhaust replaces the rear part of the exhaust, without touching the engine or the ECU. Present the car with the valves closed: it is the most discreet setting.
With the roof down, does a modified SL63 R231 stay bearable on a long journey?
Yes, provided you keep the valves closed on the motorway: the V8 becomes discreet background noise again. You wake it at the press of a button when the road suits.
Mercedes-AMG SL63 R231 5.5 V8 biturbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Mercedes-AMG SL63 R231 5.5 V8 biturbo: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
