Configuration
Nissan 350Z / 350Z Roadster Valved Exhaust System (2002-2008)
Valves
Operated by remote control, factory-paired.
Estimated at 0.50 m from the outlet, 45°, 2,000 rpm with a warm engine. Allow ± 2 dB depending on the engine and measuring point. A 3 dB difference is audible in a direct comparison; 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.
Configuration guide
Sound intensity with the valves open, on a scale of 0 to 10.
| Configuration | Intensity |
|---|---|
| Decat manifolds + Rog cat-back | 10/10 |
| 100-cell sports catalytic converter + Rog cat-back | 9/10 |
| 200-cell sports catalytic converter + Rog cat-back | 8/10 |
| Rog cat-back only, factory catalytic converter retained | 7/10 |
| Factory exhaust, for comparison | 3/10 |

Which valved exhaust for a Nissan 350Z coupé or Roadster?
The Rog system for the Nissan 350Z, in coupé and Roadster form, is a valved cat-back exhaust in 304 stainless steel or titanium, built to your VIN for the naturally aspirated VQ35 V6 with 280 to 313 hp depending on model phase. Valves open, the VQ's gravelly timbre is there from idle and turns furious higher up the rev range; closed, it fades into the background for everyday journeys.
Sound, options and fitting in detail: our Nissan 350Z guide.
A Z-line coupé built from 2002 to 2008, the 350Z relies on a naturally aspirated VQ V6, fierce and eager to rev, whose rasping tone has become a cult favourite among Japanese car enthusiasts; the page credits it with 280 hp and 363 Nm.
From the factory, this character arrives muffled; with the Rog valved cat-back and the valves open, the VQ tone regains its rasping grain from idle, then its fury at high revs, with a few crackles on the overrun, before fading away when you close the valves. The 370Z, standard and Nismo alike, have other pages; for the 350Z, the serial number is checked before manufacturing.
Allow about two hours for fitting, no welding, using clamps and gaskets; if the coupé has factory valves, their control is retained, otherwise the two-button Rog remote opens and closes them.
Further upstream, the “Manifold” option replaces the front part housing the VQ’s catalytic converter; on this non-turbo V6, a suitable map only extracts a modest gain, roughly 3 to 8%, whereas the character changes completely. A 350Z used on the road will keep the 200-cell version and its emissions control; the 100-cell will be accepted or refused depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version remains a track part. 304 stainless steel to face the winter, titanium to save around 40% in weight: the round exits follow your choice.

Questions about the Nissan 350Z / 350Z Roadster exhaust.
Is the 350Z roadster covered in the same way as the coupé?
Yes. The 350Z coupé and Roadster take the same Rog system: same chassis, same V6 VQ, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Does the 350Z’s VQ V6 deserve an ECU remap with the system?
Not with the cat-back alone, which the factory management accepts as is; with the front part, a map would bring only a few per cent on this naturally aspirated V6, the main benefit remaining the recovered tone.
Which configuration should be presented to the inspector with a modified 350Z?
A Z presented with its valves closed, with the original front part or 200 cells, regains a stock voice and an active catalytic converter; with 100 cells, the decision lies with the rules in your country, and a decat 350Z is for track use only.
Does the VQ’s rasping tone come through at idle on a modified 350Z?
Yes, with the valves open, from idle and above all at high revs, where the VQ turns fierce; with the valves closed, it fades into the background in town.
Nissan 350Z / 350Z Roadster: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Nissan 350Z / 350Z Roadster: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
