Configuration
Honda Civic Type R FK8 2.0 Valved Exhaust System (2017-2021)
Valves
Operated by remote control, factory-paired.
Estimated at 0.50 m from the outlet, 45°, 2,000 rpm with a warm engine. Allow ± 2 dB depending on the engine and measuring point. A 3 dB difference is audible in a direct comparison; 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.
Configuration guide
Sound intensity with the valves open, on a scale of 0 to 10.
| Configuration | Intensity |
|---|---|
| Decat downpipe + Rog cat-back | 10/10 |
| 100-cell sports catalytic converter + Rog cat-back | 9/10 |
| 200-cell sports catalytic converter + Rog cat-back | 8/10 |
| Rog cat-back only, factory catalytic converter retained | 7/10 |

The Honda Civic Type R FK8 exhaust in detail.
Three round outlets in the middle of the diffuser, and yet a Civic Type R FK8 that whispers: the factory exhaust, designed first for comfort, smooths the K20C1’s breath and holds back the rest. It is this paradox that the valved Rog cat-back corrects, while keeping the signature of the three outlets.
The FK8, built from 2017 to 2021, receives the K20C1, a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 320 hp and 400 Nm, with the VTEC inherited from earlier Type Rs. This page is dedicated to it, without the FL5 that succeeded it; the FK2, FL5, EP3 and FN2 have their own pages. Your VIN is checked before manufacturing.
With the valves open, the four-cylinder takes on a metallic voice, almost howling towards the red line, and can be heard at all revs; with the valves closed, the FK8 stays the hatchback you take to work. The system fits with clamps and gaskets, no welding, in about two hours; factory valve control retained if it exists, Rog remote otherwise.
Further upstream, the page sells the downpipe under the “Manifold” option, since it is the part that carries the catalytic converter behind the turbo. Without an ECU remap, it only brings sound and a little weight saving; with one, the FK8 reaches the 378 hp and 504 Nm published for Stage 2. An FK8 used every day will keep the 200-cell downpipe and its emissions control; the 100-cell will be accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use, where the Type R reels off its timed laps. That leaves the material of the three exits, durable 304 stainless steel or titanium around 40% lighter, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the Honda Civic Type R FK8 2.0 exhaust.
Can a Civic FL5 owner order this FK8 system?
No: the FL5, launched in 2023, has its own page. This one covers the FK8 from 2017 to 2021; your Civic’s VIN, requested when you order, confirms compatibility before manufacturing.
Without a downpipe, does the Civic Type R FK8 need a modified map?
No: the cat-back alone gets along with the factory map and leaves the 320 hp intact. With the downpipe, an ECU remap at an approved tuner becomes the real lever, and the published figures for the FK8 rise to 378 hp and 504 Nm.
Which settings should be checked before taking a Civic Type R FK8 with a Rog system to its vehicle inspection?
Valves closed, plus the factory or 200-cell downpipe to keep the catalytic converter in service: the FK8 then presents with a noise level close to stock. In 100-cell form, everything depends on the vehicle and the country; in decat form, it stays on the circuit.
Are the Civic Type R FK8’s three tailpipes retained?
Yes, the system keeps a triple round exit, true to the FK8’s visual signature; you simply decide whether those three tips will be in 304 stainless steel or titanium, around 40% lighter and supplied in brushed, gold or purple.
Honda Civic Type R FK8 2.0: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Honda Civic Type R FK8 2.0: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
