The Audi S5 B8 Coupé 4.2 V8 exhaust in detail.
Before moving to the supercharged V6, the S5 B8 Coupé was given a genuine naturally aspirated V8: the 4.2-litre direct-injection 4.2 FSI, with 354 hp and 440 Nm sent to all four wheels through quattro drive. With no turbo, response is instant and power builds with revs. The page covers 2008 to 2012; the S4 and S5 B8 3.0 TFSI have their own system.
This V8 has the deep, round voice of an eight-cylinder, a characteristic growl under acceleration and pick-up that grows in scale without ever saturating. The factory exhaust reduces it to a distant purr. With the valves open, the Rog valved cat-back gives it back its full place: a rumble at start-up, a full and furious climb, a deep burble on the overrun. With the valves closed, the coupé keeps its everyday manners.
The “Manifold” option on the page replaces the front section of the system, which carries the catalytic converter. Chosen with 200 cells, it keeps the emissions control of a coupé that is still often used every day; with 100 cells, it is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. On a naturally aspirated V8 like this one, the power gain exists but remains modest, 3 to 8% once the ECU remap is done.
Weld-free fitting, with clamps and gaskets, in about two hours; the tips are round. The valves are controlled through the drive modes if the S5 has them from the factory, otherwise by the Rog remote and its box in the boot. Titanium lightens the system by around 40% compared with 304 stainless steel, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the Audi S5 B8 Coupé 4.2 V8 exhaust.
Is my S5 B8 V8 Cabriolet compatible?
The S5 V8 never existed as a convertible: only the coupé received the 4.2 V8. For a 2007 S5, send the VIN before ordering: we check before any manufacturing.
Does the S5 B8’s V8 need an ECU remap to take the system?
Not for the cat-back: the V8 keeps its engine management and its 354 hp. With the front section and a full ECU remap, the published Stage 2 figures are 394 hp and 488 Nm, a measured gain typical of naturally aspirated engines.
How should a modified S5 B8 Coupé be prepared before its vehicle inspection?
Close the valves on arrival: the 4.2 becomes as discreet as a stock coupé. Cat-back alone, or front section with 200 cells: gas treatment remains complete. A 100-cell front section will be judged according to the car and the rules in your country, while the decat version restricts the coupé to the track.
Stainless steel or titanium on the S5’s V8?
304 stainless steel gives a full, round sound, well matched to the V8. Titanium weighs around 40% less for the same design and sounds more metallic at high revs; it comes in brushed, gold or purple.
Audi S5 B8 Coupé 4.2 V8: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Audi S5 B8 Coupé 4.2 V8: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
