The BMW 340i F30 / F31 exhaust in detail.
The 340i F30 saloon debuted the B58: the mechanicals of an M340i ahead of their time, in an understated 3 Series that enthusiasts regard as one of the best hidden buys on the market. A 3.0-litre inline-six, twin-scroll turbo, very stiff closed-deck block: 326 hp and 450 Nm, for the 2016 to 2018 model years covered by this page. The preceding 335i F30 has its own page.
The factory filter and oversized silencers reduce the B58’s round, metallic voice to almost nothing. Our Rog cat-back, with no superfluous resonator or centre silencer, gives it back a round bass at idle, a full, even climb and crisp crackles with the valves open, without ever tipping into tiring drone. The everyday saloon is never far away: just close the valves again.
For installation, about two hours is enough, with clamps and gaskets, without welding, the system arriving built to your VIN. A 340i with factory valves continues to control them through its drive modes; without them, the Rog remote decides with two buttons.
On this B58, the “Manifold” option refers to the downpipe, where the catalytic converter sits at the turbo outlet; without an ECU remap, it only adds voice and a little lightness. Fitted with a 200-cell downpipe, the 340i saloon keeps treating its exhaust gases as it did from the factory; the 100-cell variant is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. Material of the valved cat-back: 304 stainless steel for its roundness, titanium for its roughly 40% lower mass and its three finishes.

Questions about the BMW 340i B58 F30 / F31 3.0T exhaust.
Are a 340i Touring F31 or a 2019 model year covered?
Yes for the F31 Touring: the F30 saloon and the F31 Touring take the same Rog system, with the same B58 and the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. For a 2015 or 2019 340i, outside the years covered by this page, send us the VIN: we check before manufacturing.
How much headroom does the 340i’s B58 offer at Stage 2?
Considerable: with a downpipe and a map from an approved tuning centre, the page lists 440 hp and 620 Nm, against 326 hp and 450 Nm as standard; the cat-back on its own requires no ECU remap.
BMW 340i B58 F30 3.0T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the cat-back only or the 200-cell sports catalytic converter, emissions control is retained: present the car with the valves closed. The 100-cell brings more sound and flow, and whether it is accepted at the emissions test depends on the car and local rules; the decat version is intended for track use.
Why is the 340i so quiet from the factory?
Because the oversized filter and silencer, imposed by emissions standards, absorb the B58’s voice; our cat-back does not touch the engine and simply puts you back in control of the volume.
Do the 340i’s driving modes keep control of the valves?
It all depends on how your saloon is equipped: with factory valves, Comfort and Sport keep controlling the opening; without them, the Rog remote decides, independently of the selected programme.
BMW 340i B58 F30 / F31 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW 340i B58 F30 / F31 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
