The BMW M135i F40 exhaust in detail.
With the F40 generation, the M135i changed philosophy: a transverse 2.0-litre B48 turbocharged four-cylinder, combined with all-wheel drive to put 306 hp and 450 Nm down in all weathers. Our previous page dated it from 2019 to 2024, and your VIN lets us confirm your car’s model year. Its predecessor, the six-cylinder, rear-wheel-drive M135i N55, has its own page.
The B48 has plenty of punch, but BMW calibrated it for efficiency and silence rather than emotion, so its factory sound remains anonymous. Yet a turbocharged four-cylinder responds very well to a well-crafted exhaust. With the valves open, our valved cat-back gives it a full, sporty tone, with clear crackles on the overrun; with the valves closed, the M135i becomes the discreet everyday hatchback again, at the flick of a switch.
No welding or cutting: the system is fixed with clamps and gaskets, in about two hours on a lift. An M135i with factory valves keeps controlling them through the drive modes; otherwise the Rog remote, linked to a small box in the boot, opens and closes them at the press of a button.
This page sells a cat-back only, with no front section option: the engine and ECU stay as BMW delivered them, and the system transforms the voice and lightens the rear without promising extra horsepower. All that remains is to choose the material: either 304 stainless steel, tough and round in tone, or titanium, around 40% lighter for the same design, ordered in a brushed, gold or purple finish.

Questions about the BMW M135i B48 F40 exhaust.
Can a 2022 M135i F40 take this cat-back without adaptation?
The 2019 to 2024 M135i F40 is targeted, but our data does not specify any range of years; send us the VIN before ordering, and we check your model year’s compatibility before starting manufacturing.
Is the cat-back enough, or does the M135i F40 need an ECU remap?
It is enough: the system works with the factory map. The Stage 2 figures published on the page, 380 hp and 560 Nm, assume more extensive tuning than a simple cat-back, carried out by an approved tuner.
Vehicle inspection: what does this cat-back change on an M135i F40?
Presented with the valves closed, it keeps a sound close to standard; the system only replaces the rear part of the exhaust, the rest of the factory installation remains, and the engine and its electronic management stay factory.
Factory valves or the Rog remote on the compact xDrive?
Both options are chosen at configuration: with the factory control, the M135i’s driving modes decide; with the Rog remote, you open and close at any time, whatever the mode selected.
Does the M135i’s four-cylinder really sound better with an exhaust system?
Yes, because the B48 has a voice that the factory system muffles: our design gives it a full tone and crisp crackles with the valves open, without chasing volume at all costs, then standard quiet with the valves closed.
BMW M135i B48 F40: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW M135i B48 F40: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
