In the 95B.3 phase, the Macan S adopted the EA839, a 2.9-litre V6 with its two turbos nestled in the vee: 380 hp and 520 Nm, with abundant torque very early. The EA839 sounds tighter than the Macan’s older V6s, with a deep, slightly rough voice that hardens under acceleration. The turbines filter some of it out, and the factory exhaust polishes off the rest. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back delivers a gruff, full note on every burst of acceleration; with the valves closed, the Macan S becomes a discreet compact SUV again, for town, the school run and long stages.
The “Manifold” option on this page corresponds to the EA839’s catalysed downpipe. On this twin-turbo, it only adds power with an ECU remap, the benefit otherwise being in the sound; its 200-cell version keeps the Macan’s emissions control.
Fitting is done without cutting, in about two hours, with clamps and gaskets. The Macan S’s factory valves keep their modes; failing that, the Rog remote controls them. 304 stainless steel plays on toughness, titanium on lightness, around 40% less for the same design, in brushed, gold or purple; the tips come in chrome, gloss black or blued titanium.
