The Ford Mustang EcoBoost S550 exhaust (2015 to 2017) in detail.
A 2.3-litre aluminium inline four-cylinder, direct injection and twin-scroll turbo: this is the engine of the first-phase Mustang S550 EcoBoost, from 2015 to 2017, with 317 hp and 434 Nm available from low revs. Enough to make the rear axle work with real ease, but not enough to make itself heard: the turbine absorbs part of the pulses, and the factory exhaust finishes the job.
This page is for phase 1; the 2018 to 2022 facelifted EcoBoost, the V8 Mustang GT and the Focus RS with the 2.3 engine each have their own page. We use your VIN to check compatibility before manufacturing. With the valves open, the Rog valved cat-back brings out the hoarse, gritty grain of the 2.3-litre, with the whoosh of the turbo under load and crackles on deceleration; with the valves closed, the Mustang regains a composed sound.
Allow about two hours under the car, using clamps and gaskets and no welding; the factory valve control is retained if it exists, otherwise the Rog remote decides. The page also offers the downpipe, under the “Manifold” option: without an ECU remap, it brings sound and a few kilos less; with one, the Stage 2 figures published for this phase reach 357 hp and 546 Nm. In 200-cell form, the four-cylinder keeps its emissions control; in 100-cell form, acceptance depends on the vehicle and your country’s rules; and the decat version is reserved for track use, which only concerns Mustangs prepared for the track. 304 stainless steel or titanium, around 40% lighter, the latter in brushed, gold or purple, with round tips.

Questions about the Ford Mustang EcoBoost S550 2.3 exhaust.
Is the 2018 facelifted S550 2.3 EcoBoost covered by this page?
No, it has its own page, for the 2018 to 2022 model years. This one covers phase 1 from 2015 to 2017; your Mustang’s VIN, requested when you order, removes any doubt before manufacturing.
Does the phase 1 Mustang S550’s 2.3 EcoBoost benefit from an ECU remap?
With the cat-back alone, it is not necessary. With the downpipe, a remap at an approved tuner makes use of the freed-up flow: that is what leads to the 357 hp and 546 Nm published in Stage 2 for the 317 hp version.
What do I need to know about vehicle inspection for a 2015 to 2017 Mustang EcoBoost S550?
Close the valves: the four-cylinder returns to a stock voice. With the original or 200-cell downpipe, the catalytic converter stays active. The 100-cell is decided according to the car and your country, and the decat downpipe never leaves the track.
Can a four-cylinder Mustang S550 2.3 really sound good?
Yes, and it often comes as a surprise: set free, the EcoBoost rumbles with an unexpectedly gruff tone, mixed with the whoosh of the turbo. It is not a V8, and the system does not pretend otherwise; it is a voice of its own, far more present than from the factory.
Does the Mustang S550 convertible take the same system as the Fastback?
Yes. The S550 Fastback and convertible take the same Rog system, like the original Ford Performance sports exhaust. On the convertible, a floor brace is added under the body: we check the routing against your VIN before manufacturing.
Ford Mustang EcoBoost S550 2.3: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
