Valved Exhaust System for Ford Mustang GT S550 V8 5.0 (2015-2017)
Configuration
Ford Mustang GT S550 Valved Exhaust System (2015-2017)
Valves
Operated by remote control, factory-paired.
Estimated at 0.50 m from the outlet, 45°, 2,000 rpm with a warm engine. Allow ± 2 dB depending on the engine and measuring point. A 3 dB difference is audible in a direct comparison; 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.

The Ford Mustang GT S550 exhaust in detail.
This page is for the first-phase Mustang GT S550, from 2015 to 2017, and its Coyote: a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 with double overhead camshafts per bank and four valves per cylinder, producing 421 hp and 530 Nm. The 2018-2020 phase, raised to 450 hp with dual injection, has its own page.
Without a turbo, nothing filters the sound upstream: everything the V8 produces reaches the exhaust, which becomes the only go-between for the engine and you. From the factory, the exhaust keeps a hint of the Coyote’s deep, uneven beat at idle, but planes down its relief. With the valves open, the Rog system makes the start-up shake, the low revs rumble, the V8 sing at full load and the downshifts roll like a drum. With the valves closed, the GT becomes a sociable grand tourer again, one that does not wake the street on early departures.
Built to your VIN, the valved cat-back fits with clamps and gaskets, no welding, in about two hours. For control, the factory system is retained if your Mustang has factory valves; otherwise the Rog remote takes over, with two buttons.
Here, the “Manifold” option lives up to its name: on a naturally aspirated V8, the manifolds collect the gases as they leave the cylinders and house the original catalytic converter. Their design really matters, as lengths and geometry affect cylinder filling at high revs; with an ECU remap, the gain is real but modest, around 3 to 8%. With 200 cells, emissions control is kept; with 100 cells or decat, it is not. 304 stainless steel with a round sound, or titanium around 40% lighter, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the Ford Mustang GT S550 V8 5.0 exhaust.
Does this cover my 2018 Mustang GT?
No, this page covers the S550 from 2015 to 2017. The 2018 to 2020 GT, whose Coyote rises to 450 hp, has its own page. In both cases, your VIN lets us check compatibility before manufacturing.
Does the Mustang GT need an ECU remap to fit the system?
No. The cat-back touches neither the engine nor its map. With no forced induction to exploit, the gain from an ECU remap is more modest than on a turbocharged engine; it mainly makes sense if you replace the manifolds.
Vehicle inspection: what should you know for a Mustang GT with this system?
With the valves closed, the V8 quietens down and stays close to its stock voice: that is how to present it. With the cat-back alone or the 200-cell manifolds, the catalytic converters keep working. With the 100-cell, the answer depends on the car and local regulations; the decat version is reserved for track use.
Are the manifolds worth it on the Coyote?
On this naturally aspirated V8, yes, more so than on a turbocharged engine: the length of the primaries affects cylinder filling. Expect a modest gain, 3 to 8% with an ECU remap, and a richer sound. Without an ECU remap, it is mainly the sound that changes.
How quickly does the system arrive?
The system is made to order for your Mustang: 20 working days from confirmation to delivery, free shipping and tracking from dispatch. Fitting takes around two hours on a lift.
Does the Mustang S550 convertible take the same system as the Fastback?
Yes. The S550 Fastback and convertible take the same Rog system, like the original Ford Performance sports exhaust. On the convertible, a floor brace is added under the body: we check the routing against your VIN before manufacturing.
Ford Mustang GT S550 V8 5.0: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Ford Mustang GT S550 V8 5.0: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.

Ford Mustang GT S550 V8: the Coyote in two stages, the exhaust system guide
An American icon, the Mustang GT S550 relies on a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8, the Coyote: 421 hp from 2015 to 2017, then 450 hp from 2018 to 2020. No turbo is there to carry or soften the sound: everything...
