The Ford Mustang EcoBoost S550 exhaust (2018 to 2022) in detail.
Unleashed, the four-cylinder in the facelifted Mustang EcoBoost comes as a surprise: a gravelly, grainy tone you would not expect under that bonnet, with the whoosh of the turbo blending in under load. From the factory, the 2018 to 2022 exhaust turns it into a neutral hum, designed for cabin quiet rather than the image of a galloping horse.
After the facelift, the 2.3-litre turbo produces 290 hp and 440 Nm, with torque as strong as ever from low revs. This page covers that phase; the 2015 to 2017 phase 1, the V8 GT and the Focus RS have their own pages. For 2023 onwards nothing is established: your VIN, checked before manufacturing, decides.
With the valves open, the Rog valved cat-back gives the Mustang a full, aggressive voice, acceleration you can hear and decelerations punctuated by crackles; closed, it lets the car cross town and cover long stages without fuss. Fitting is done without welding, using clamps and gaskets, in about two hours, with the factory valve control if the car has one, the Rog remote otherwise.
Under the “Manifold” option, the page sells the 2.3-litre’s downpipe, which carries the catalytic converter. On its own, it adds no horsepower, only sound and a little less weight; an ECU remap is needed to extract power from it. For the facelifted EcoBoost, the 200-cell downpipe keeps an effective catalytic converter, the 100-cell one will be accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use, for Mustangs that spend their Saturdays there. 304 stainless steel, round and durable, or titanium, around 40% lighter and finished in brushed, gold or purple, exit through round tips.

Questions about the Ford Mustang EcoBoost S550 2.3 exhaust.
Does a 2023 Mustang EcoBoost S550 2.3 fall under this page?
The page covers phase 2 from 2018 to 2022; beyond that, compatibility is not established, and it is your car’s VIN, checked before manufacturing, that will tell whether the facelifted S550 system fits.
Does the 290 hp Mustang EcoBoost S550 need an ECU remap?
The cat-back alone runs very well with the phase 2 factory ECU. An ECU remap becomes useful if you add the downpipe, the only way to turn this flow into power; the result then depends on the chosen tune.
Ford Mustang EcoBoost S550 2.3 with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
The simplest configuration: valves closed, factory catalytic converter or 200-cell downpipe. The 2.3-litre then presents itself with a voice close to stock. In 100-cell form, the outcome depends on the vehicle and the country’s regulations; the decat version is reserved for the track.
On the facelifted Mustang EcoBoost S550, factory control or Rog remote?
On an EcoBoost fitted with factory valves, the drive modes continue to control the opening, as before fitting. Without factory valves, you choose the Rog remote, with its small box hidden in the Mustang’s boot.
Does the Mustang S550 convertible take the same system as the Fastback?
Yes. The S550 Fastback and convertible take the same Rog system, like the original Ford Performance sports exhaust. On the convertible, a floor brace is added under the body: we check the routing against your VIN before manufacturing.
Ford Mustang EcoBoost S550 2.3: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
