    A question about this exhaust?

    Porsche718 Boxster / Cayman 982

The Porsche 718 Boxster / Cayman GTS 2.5 exhaust in detail.

The most powerful version of the four-cylinder Boxster, the 718 Boxster GTS type 982 receives a 2.5-litre flat-four with a variable geometry turbo: 365 hp and 430 Nm, from 2017 to 2019. Our page covers the Boxster GTS and the Cayman GTS 2.5; for a Boxster S, your VIN lets us check before manufacturing. The entry-level 2.0-litre 718 and the six-cylinder Cayman GTS are covered on other pages.

This torque, available from low revs, transforms the roadster: instant pick-up, vigorous corner exits, without needing to chase the revs. Yet the factory exhaust is designed so that you do not hear the engine working, a paradox on a roadster of this calibre. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back embraces the syncopated burble typical of opposed cylinders, a furious start-up and present downshifts, delightful with the roof down; with the valves closed, back to discretion.

On this flat-four, the front part is the downpipe that follows the variable-geometry turbo, sold under the “Manifold” option: combined with an ECU remap, it targets the 420 hp and 525 Nm published at Stage 2 for the GTS, whereas fitted on its own it only brings sound and a little lightness. In 200-cell form, the roadster keeps controlling emissions as it did when it left the factory.

Under the Boxster, the exhaust is attached with clamps and gaskets, without a single weld, in about two hours. If the roadster left the factory with valves, their control is retained; otherwise, a Rog remote operates them from the cabin, roof up or down. Titanium, around 40% lighter for the same design, comes in brushed, gold or purple, and the four round outlets can be had in chrome, gloss black or blued titanium.

Questions about the Porsche 718 Boxster / Cayman GTS 2.5 turbo type 982 exhaust.

Cayman GTS 2.5 or Boxster S: can the Boxster GTS system suit them?

The Cayman GTS 2.5, yes: it takes the same Rog system as the Boxster GTS, with the same 365 hp engine. The 350 hp Boxster S is not covered by this page: for it, your VIN lets us check before manufacturing.

Remapped Boxster GTS 2.5: what does the page quote in Stage 2?

According to our page, 420 hp and 525 Nm at Stage 2, against 365 hp and 430 Nm as standard. It is the map that turns the freed-up flow into power; the cat-back alone does not need one.

Roof down in front of the inspector: how should a modified Boxster GTS be presented at vehicle inspection?

With the valves closed, the flat-four regains its stock discretion. The factory or 200-cell downpipe retains emissions control; a 100-cell downpipe will be accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and a decat Boxster falls under track-only use.

Does an equipped Boxster GTS stay pleasant on a long journey?

With the valves closed, yes: the silencer, designed for cruising, avoids drone at a constant speed, with the roof up or down. You open them again as you leave the motorway, where the roadster comes into its own.
