Porsche718 Boxster / Cayman 982
The Porsche 718 Cayman / Boxster GTS 4.0 exhaust in detail.
The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 answered what many expected of the range: the return of a naturally aspirated flat-six, here a 4.0-litre with 400 hp and 420 Nm, installed right behind the seats. Our page covers the 2024-2025 model years, the only ones documented in our records. The Boxster GTS 4.0 takes the same system, and the GT4 has its own.
A gruff, metallic growl at low revs, a high-pitched howl near the limiter: mounted so close to your shoulders, this engine is felt as much as it is heard. Yet the factory system holds back a good part of it, especially when driving gently. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back lets the sound climb with the needle to a pure note, and downshifts echo behind your back; with them closed, the Cayman remains a civilised sports car.
For those who want to go further, the page sells, under the “Manifold” option, the catalysed pipes that extend this flat-six’s manifolds. On an engine that breathes without a turbo, their contribution is limited to 3 to 8%, and only with an ECU remap; the 200-cell version leaves emissions control as Porsche intended.
Nothing is cut or welded behind the GTS’s seats: clamps and gaskets, about two hours on a lift. Factory valves keep their control, otherwise the Rog remote takes over. 304 stainless steel keeps a full tone, titanium saves around 40% in weight for the same design and comes in brushed, gold or purple, and the round central exit is finished in chrome, gloss black or blued titanium.

Questions about the Porsche 718 Cayman / Boxster GTS 4.0 type 982 exhaust.
I drive a Boxster GTS 4.0: do I have to give up on this Cayman system?
No, quite the opposite: the Boxster GTS 4.0 takes the same Rog system as the Cayman GTS 4.0, with the same six-cylinder and the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the model year before manufacturing.
Sports front pipes on a Cayman GTS 4.0: what is the benefit?
On this non-turbo six-cylinder, the gain remains modest, in the order of 3 to 8% and only with an ECU remap. For the voice, the cat-back already does most of the work; we quote no numerical Stage 2 figure for the GTS 4.0.
Which options should be kept to present the Cayman GTS 4.0 at vehicle inspection?
Closed valves first, which give the six-cylinder back its factory restraint. The original or 200-cell pipes maintain emissions control. With 100-cell pipes, the decision comes down to the car and the rules in your country, which accept them or not; a GTS without a catalytic converter belongs on the track only, the use it is reserved for.
My Cayman GTS 4.0 is older than 2024: is the system possible?
Our page only documents the 2024-2025 model years. For an earlier car, send us its VIN: we look at what is possible before manufacturing, rather than extending the system without proof.
Porsche 718 Cayman / Boxster GTS 4.0 type 982: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Porsche 718 Cayman / Boxster GTS 4.0 type 982: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.

Porsche 718 Cayman / Boxster GTS type 982: the mid-mounted flat-six, the exhaust system guide
The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 delivered what many expected from the 718 range: the return of a naturally aspirated flat-six, here with 4.0 litres and 400 hp, mounted just behind the seats. An engine that just wants to rev, in...
