    Porsche718 Boxster / Cayman 982

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 / Spyder exhaust in detail.

The 718 Cayman GT4’s naturally aspirated 4.0-litre is Porsche’s gift to purists: the return of the flat-six in the sharpest mid-engined chassis in the range, 420 hp and 420 Nm. In the mid-mounted position, the exhaust is right behind your ears, and every improvement is heard a hundredfold. Our page covers the 2020 to 2022 model years of the Cayman GT4 and the 718 Spyder; for the years 2019 and 2023 to 2025, we check against the VIN before manufacturing.

Metallic and furious, this engine revs beyond 8,000 rpm, and its stock system, 15.1 kg according to our data, partly stifles it. Once the valves are open, the Rog cat-back reduces back pressure and lets through the high-pitched register that the stock system holds back; closed again, they give the GT4 a presentable manner for driving to the paddock by road.

The page also offers the front pipes, just after the manifolds, under the “Manifold” option. On this naturally aspirated engine, their gain is real but modest, 3 to 8%, and assumes an ECU remap. The 200-cell version lets the catalytic converter work, just as stock.

Band clamps and gaskets are enough: no welding, about two hours in the workshop, and the GT4’s factory exhaust can be kept intact in the garage. A GT4 fitted with factory valves keeps controlling them through the modes; for the others, a Rog remote fits in your pocket. Titanium, around 40% lighter than 304 stainless steel for the same design, in brushed, gold or purple, for a system worthy of a driver’s car.

Questions about the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 / Spyder 4.0 type 982 exhaust.

    My 718 is a soft-top Spyder 4.0: can I take the GT4 system?

Yes. The 718 Spyder 4.0 takes the same Rog system as the Cayman GT4: same 420 hp 4.0-litre engine, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.

Remapping a 718 GT4 fitted with sports front pipes: worthwhile?

On this naturally aspirated flat-six, an ECU remap brings a modest gain, in the order of 3 to 8% with the sports front pipes. The cat-back alone works without touching it; we quote no numerical Stage 2 figure for this model.

Between two track days, how should a GT4,718 be presented at the vehicle inspection?

By putting it back in road trim: valves closed, original or 200-cell pipes, and therefore a catalytic converter doing its job. 100-cell pipes remain subject to the car and the rules in your country, which accept them or not. As for the version without a catalytic converter, reserved for track use, it will wait for the next track outing.

Titanium or stainless steel for a GT4 used on track?

Titanium saves around 40% of the weight for the same design and sounds more crystalline at high revs, two strong arguments on a GT4. 304 stainless steel, rounder in sound and very tough, remains relevant if the car is mainly driven on the road.

Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 / Spyder 4.0 type 982: Does a valved exhaust system drone?

No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
