The Porsche 911 Carrera 993 exhaust in detail.
The whoosh of the fan, the metallic grain of the opposed cylinders, then a hoarse rumble that hardens at high revs: the 993, the last air-cooled 911, has a voice nothing can imitate. Its factory exhaust, designed for 1990s comfort, keeps most of it to itself. With the valves open, the Rog valved cat-back gives the flat-six a more present idle and a climb through the revs full of texture; with the valves closed, the car stays discreet for long journeys and town.
The system is for the 993-type 911 Carrera with the 3.6-litre engine, 272 hp and 330 Nm in its original specification, before the Varioram variable intake enriched it, for the 1994 to 1998 model years. The Carrera S is not yet documented in our records: for that car, and for any 993 with a particular history, we use your VIN to check compatibility before manufacturing.
This page sells the system alone, without a front section: it fits after the factory front section, which you keep. No welding or cutting, which matters on a collector’s car: band clamps, gaskets, about two hours on a lift. The valves are controlled by the Rog remote, with its box in the boot, or by a factory control if your car has one.
The choice of material follows the use: 304 stainless steel, with its full, round sound, resists salt and damp, while titanium weighs around 40% less for the same design and sounds more metallic at high revs, in brushed, gold or purple. The tips, for their part, come in chrome, gloss black or blued titanium, from the most understated to the boldest.

Questions about the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.6 type 993 exhaust.
My 993 is a Carrera S: is this system meant for it?
Our page lists the 993-type Carrera 3.6; the Carrera S is not yet documented in our records. We do not rule it out, though: your car’s VIN lets us decide before starting any manufacturing.
Does an equipped 993 benefit from an ECU remap?
The system works with the 993’s factory electronics, with no adjustment at all. Without an ECU remap, it changes the voice and lightens the rear; no Stage 2 figure is published on our page for this air-cooled flat-six.
What does the Rog system change on a 993 at vehicle inspection?
Very little if you close the valves: the flat-six regains its factory discretion, the position to adopt for the test. As the system is a cat-back, the factory front section stays fitted, and the page offers neither 100-cell nor decat versions.
Can a 993 ever go back to its original exhaust system?
Yes: fitting involves no cutting or welding, just clamps and gaskets. Keep your 993’s original system, it can be refitted if you wish, a reassuring point on a collector’s car.
Coupé, convertible or Targa: does the 911 Carrera 3.6 993 take the same system?
Yes. On the 911 Carrera 3.6 993, coupé, convertible and Targa share the flat-six and the same Rog system, fitted with clamps and gaskets. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Porsche 911 Carrera 3.6 type 993: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
