The Porsche 911 Carrera 996.2 exhaust in detail.
The second phase of the 996 takes the water-cooled flat-six to 3.6 litres: 320 hp and 370 Nm, more torque and more depth in the voice. You still have to hear it, though. The factory exhaust, designed for comfort, keeps at a distance that muffled rumble that turns into a metallic scream at high revs. The Rog valved cat-back restores that progression when you open up, then gives the 911 back its everyday sports car manners when you close.
Our page covers the 2002 to 2004 996.2 Carrera; the 3.4-litre 996.1 and the 996 Turbo are covered separately. For a Carrera 4, not yet documented in our records, the VIN lets us confirm compatibility before manufacturing.
The system is ordered on its own, with no front section option: the factory catalytic converter stays where Porsche put it. Without a map, it brings sound and a little lightness; a full Stage 2 tune targets, according to the page, 352 hp and 415 Nm.
Fitting in about two hours, without welding: high-strength clamps and gaskets are all it takes under the 996’s body. The valves respond to the Rog remote, or to the factory control if your car has one. As for the material, 304 stainless steel gives a round sound and shrugs off winters, while titanium saves around 40% in weight for the same design and comes in brushed, gold or purple; the tips come in chrome, gloss black or blued titanium.

Questions about the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.6 type 996.2 exhaust.
My 996 dates from 2001: should I choose this page?
In principle, no: a 2001 996 is a phase 1 car with the 3.4-litre engine, which has its own page. This one covers the 3.6-litre 996.2, from 2002 to 2004; if in doubt, the VIN decides before manufacturing.
Does an equipped 996.2 need to see a tuner for its engine management?
Not to accommodate the system, which works with the factory ECU. An ECU remap remains possible; the page publishes 352 hp and 415 Nm at Stage 2 for this 3.6-litre, compared with 320 hp and 370 Nm from the factory.
Which valve position should you adopt to present a 996.2 at vehicle inspection?
Close the valves: the flat-six then returns to a sound close to stock. No emissions part is touched, as the page sells neither a sport front section nor a decat version for this 911.
On the motorway, does an equipped 996.2 become tiring?
No: with the valves closed, the flow passes through the silencer chambers, and the 996.2 stays calm at a steady speed, with no resonance in the cabin. That is what lets you keep the 996.2 as an everyday car, and open up only on the road of your choice.
Coupé, convertible or Targa: does the 911 Carrera 3.6 996.2 take the same system?
Yes. On the 911 Carrera 3.6 996.2, coupé, convertible and Targa share the flat-six and the same Rog system, fitted with clamps and gaskets. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Porsche 911 Carrera 3.6 type 996.2: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.

The 911 Carrera 996.1 and 996.2 marked a turning point: they were the first 911s with a water-cooled flat-six. The 996.1 from 1998 to 2001 introduced it at 3.4 litres and 300 hp, and the 996.2 from 2002 to 2004...
