The Porsche 911 Turbo 996 exhaust in detail.
Unlike the Carreras of its generation, the type 996,911 Turbo receives a flat-six derived from the 911 GT1’s, the so-called Mezger engine: 3.6 litres, water-cooled, dry sump, two turbos, 420 hp and 560 Nm sent to all four wheels. This page covers the 2000 to 2005 model years. The Turbo S is not yet documented in our records; for it, your VIN lets us check before manufacturing.
More muffled than a naturally aspirated Carrera, this twin-turbo’s voice is rich in texture: a gruff rumble at idle, the whoosh of the turbos under acceleration. The heavy, compartmentalised factory system, 26.3 kg according to our page, strips out almost all of that substance. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back brings back a gruff grain with every burst of acceleration and livelier lift-offs; with them closed, the Turbo becomes a grand tourer again.
For the 996 Turbo, the page offers only the system itself, in 304 stainless steel or titanium. Without an ECU remap, the benefit is in sound and weight, not mechanical; with complete tuning, the published Stage 2 figures for the 996 Turbo are 494 hp and 693 Nm. Against such a heavy factory system, titanium, around 40% lighter than stainless steel for the same design, comes into its own; it is available in brushed, gold or purple.
No welding: band clamps and gaskets, about two hours on a lift for an equipped mechanic. The Rog remote opens and closes the valves at the press of a button, unless your Turbo has a factory control, which is then retained. Three tip finishes are available for the 996 Turbo: chrome, gloss black or blued titanium.

Questions about the Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 type 996 exhaust.
My 996 is a Turbo S: can I order the Turbo system?
Our page only lists the 2000 to 2005 Turbo 3.6, without the Turbo S. We do not rule it out: give us the VIN and we check compatibility before starting manufacturing.
Does the Mezger engine’s map need touching when fitting the system?
Not to run the system, which works with the factory management. A full ECU remap aims, according to the page, for 494 hp and 693 Nm at Stage 2; without it, you gain the voice and a few kilos, not horsepower.
On vehicle inspection day, what precaution should be taken with the 996 Turbo?
Valves closed: this is the most discreet position, close to the Turbo’s factory sound. For any question about emissions control on your car, talk to us before ordering; we answer case by case.
How much weight does a 996 Turbo save with the Rog system?
The factory exhaust weighs 26.3 kg according to our page, and the Rog system is lighter than that assembly. In titanium, the gap grows further, around 40% less than stainless steel for the same design; we do not publish a weight figure for the Rog system.
Coupé or convertible: does the 911 Turbo 3.6 996 take the same system?
Yes. On the 911 Turbo 3.6 996, coupé and convertible share the flat-six and the same Rog system, fitted with clamps and gaskets. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 type 996: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
