The Porsche Boxster / Cayman 987.1 exhaust in detail.
With the roof down, the Boxster 987.1 should do everything to let you hear its engine: a naturally aspirated flat-six mounted mid-ship, right behind your shoulders. The factory exhaust, on the contrary, works hard to keep it at a distance. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back gives it a clearer, more present voice all the way to the top of the rev counter, a real pleasure on a country road; with the valves closed, the roadster regains its calm for town or late journeys home.
The page covers the Boxster 987.1 from 2005 to 2008, in both 2.7-litre and 3.4-litre form: from 240 to 295 hp and from 270 to 340 Nm depending on the version. It covers the Boxster and the Cayman of this generation, which take the same system. The 987.2 and 981 have their own page.
The manifolds, with integrated catalytic converter, are ordered under the “Manifold” option. On this naturally aspirated flat-six, they bring only a modest gain, 3 to 8%, and only with an ECU remap; the page lists up to 326 hp and 378 Nm in Stage 2 for the 295 hp version. Chosen in 200-cell form, they keep emissions control.
The roadster needs only clamps and gaskets, without welding, for about two hours of fitting on a lift. Factory valves retained if they exist, otherwise the Rog remote. As for material, titanium saves around 40% for the same design and comes in brushed, gold or purple, while 304 stainless steel plays on toughness; the tips can be chosen in chrome, gloss black or blued titanium.

Questions about the Porsche Boxster / Cayman 2.7 / 3.4 type 987.1 exhaust.
Does the Boxster 987.1 system fit the Cayman of the same generation?
Yes. The Boxster and the Cayman 987.1 share the flat-six and the same Rog system, as on our 987.2, 981 and 718 pages. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Boxster 2.7 or 3.4: what does an ECU remap with sport manifolds change?
According to the page, the 2.7-litre goes from 240 or 245 hp to 268 hp at Stage 2, and the 295 hp version reaches 326 hp and 378 Nm. Ordered on its own, the cat-back leaves the roadster’s ECU as it is.
Porsche Boxster 987.1 2.7 / 3.4 with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
Nothing is promised in advance, but presented with the valves closed, it returns to a sound close to standard. Factory or 200-cell manifolds retain emissions control; the 100-cell version is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and a decat Boxster is reserved for track use.
Is the Boxster 987.1 still pleasant on a long journey?
Yes, with the valves closed: the silencer, designed for cruising, prevents drone at a steady speed, roof up or down. You open the valves again as you leave the motorway, where the flat-six has something to say.
