    PorscheBoxster / Cayman 981

The Porsche Boxster and Cayman 981 exhaust in detail.

Regarded by many as the purest mid-engined chassis of the modern era, the 981 keeps a naturally aspirated flat-six, and that is what drives its value. This page is for the 2.7-litre version, from 2012 to 2015: 265 or 275 hp and 280 or 290 Nm depending on the version. The 3.4-litre is not covered by this part number, and the Cayman GT4 has its own system; your VIN settles it before manufacturing.

No turbo to make the noise for it: the 2.7-litre sings right behind you, and the factory system filters it to the point of erasing it. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back turns up the volume, with a gruff, metallic tone, presence from idle and crisp crackles on the overrun; with them closed, the 981 regains its factory discretion.

The 981’s front section is the manifolds and their catalytic converter, offered under the “Manifold” option. Their contribution on this small naturally aspirated flat-six remains modest, 3 to 8%, and requires an ECU remap; the page lists 294 hp and 326 Nm in Stage 2. Fitted in 200-cell form, they leave emissions control in place.

For fitting, clamps and gaskets, without welding, about two hours on a lift. Factory valve control retained, or the Rog remote. 304 stainless steel keeps a round tone; titanium, around 40% lighter, adds a crystalline note and three finishes, brushed, gold or purple. For the tips, chrome, gloss black or blued titanium.

Questions about the Porsche Boxster / Cayman 2.7 type 981 exhaust.

My 981 has the 3.4-litre engine: does this system suit it?

Our page only covers the 2.7-litre, and our data does not allow the part to be extended to the 3.4-litre. So we do not claim it: your VIN lets us see what is possible before manufacturing.

Sport manifolds and an ECU remap: how much for a 981 2.7-litre?

The page publishes 294 hp and 326 Nm at Stage 2, from 265 to 275 hp stock. Without manifolds, the cat-back needs no ECU remap and acts on voice and mass.

Porsche Boxster / Cayman 981 2.7 with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?

By presenting it with the valves closed, with the original or 200-cell manifolds, you keep emissions control and a sound close to stock. 100-cell manifolds are accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country; a 981 without a catalytic converter is reserved for track use.

How quickly can a 981 be fitted with the system?

Allow 20 working days for manufacturing and delivery, which is free and handed over against signature, then about two hours in the workshop. The system is made for your car, from the VIN provided with your order.

Porsche Boxster / Cayman 2.7 type 981: Does a valved exhaust system drone?

No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
