The Porsche Cayman GT4 / Boxster Spyder 981 exhaust in detail.
Mid-mounted engine, manual gearbox, chassis developed by the GT department: the 981 Cayman GT4 was welcomed as a gift to purists. Its 3.8-litre naturally aspirated flat-six, with 385 hp and 420 Nm, responds instantly and climbs through the revs with a linearity that makes it such a joy to drive. Our page covers the 2015 and 2016 Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder; the GTS models are not included.
Everything in this car is geared towards sensations, except the factory exhaust, which filters the engine as much as it weighs: 16.7 kg according to our page. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back lets the flat-six howl freely at high revs and punctuates every braking zone with present downshifts; with the valves closed, the GT4 heads to the track or crosses a village without drawing every eye.
The page also sells the manifolds, with integrated catalytic converter, under the “Manifold” option. On this non-turbo 3.8-litre, the gain remains modest, 3 to 8%, and requires an ECU remap; the page lists 425 hp and 462 Nm in Stage 2, and the 200-cell manifolds preserve emissions control.
Fitting in about two hours, with clamps and gaskets, without any welding. Factory valves retained if present, otherwise the Rog remote. 304 stainless steel or titanium, the latter around 40% lighter for the same design, a real asset on a driver’s car; it comes in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the Porsche Cayman GT4 / Boxster Spyder 3.8 type 981 exhaust.
Can a Boxster Spyder 981 take the Cayman GT4’s exhaust?
Yes. The Boxster Spyder 981 takes the same Rog system as the Cayman GT4: same 3.8-litre flat-six, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. The GTS models, with the 3.4-litre engine, are not covered.
Does the GT4,981 benefit from an ECU remap with sport manifolds?
Our page quotes 425 hp and 462 Nm at Stage 2, forty horsepower more than the stock GT4, a consistent gain for a naturally aspirated engine. The cat-back alone works with the factory map.
My Cayman GT4 is used on track: how do I prepare it for the vehicle inspection?
Return to a road configuration: valves closed, factory or 200-cell manifolds, emissions control retained. 100-cell manifolds will be accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use, where the GT4 is in its element.
How long does it take to receive the exhaust for a Cayman GT4,981?
20 working days from order confirmation to delivery: the system is built for your GT4, then shipped free, insured and tracked. Around two hours of fitting is then all it takes.
Porsche Cayman GT4 / Boxster Spyder 3.8 type 981: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Porsche Cayman GT4 / Boxster Spyder 3.8 type 981: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
